Sholto,

I think you  have  found , one of the  ROS-MF mode ,  phantom  qso's  on HF , that  show  on the  psk-reporter as  either 476 or 136 KHz  ..

To decode,  need  one of the  old  versions of  ROS , that  have the  MF modes , the  same  issue as  displayed on the  psk-map .. To decode , select  either 136 or 476 KHz bands  and the  mode  is  selected ,

Worth re-visiting, when 477 is  released,  the  MF mode  2 and 7 , where developed for  MF and have  extended  FEC overlap times to counter the  log 'qsb' periods , phase continuous  mfsk  modulation, suited to  non-linear tx , no time locking  , mf-7  same  rate as  psk31  and  -12 dB lower s/n  , mf-2  s/n  similar to  wspr-2 , but  is free  running  qso  mode.

RF is getting into your serial and/or USB line between computer and radio and temporarily shutting down the interface. Clamp some ferrites around the cable at both ends.

K1JT: Important notice about experimental mode FT8

Costas <sv1xv@...>

To: All WSJT-X users of FT8
From: WSJT Development Team
Subject: IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT EXPERIMENTAL MODE FT8

Thanks to all alpha testers who have sent us helpful information
on their experiences with FT8. The mode is basically working well,
but we've determined that we can improve it further by making a
change to the protocol that is not backward compatible.

Therefore, until further notice: DO NOT USE FT8 MODE IN CODE
REVISIONS LATER THAN r7782. In a few days we will issue another
notice saying that the protocol change is complete and tested.
fter that time you must stop using FT8 mode in revisions r7782
and earlier. EVERYONE USING FT8 MUST THEN UPGRADE TO A NEW CODE
REVISION WITH A NUMBER TO BE SPECIFIED.

For those not building WSJT-X by themselves: We will plan to
release WSJT-X v1.8-rc1 very soon after the protocol change.
This release will include pre-built installation packages for
Windows, Linux, and OS X.

GM - If anything interferes with the connection between the radio and the computer, WSJT-X loses the comm port and needs to be reset. For example, I have a YT-100 tuner on my 897 and if a button, to check the tuner status, WSJT-X will behave as you describe. 73 de bill

Subject: IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT EXPERIMENTAL MODE FT8

The planned protocol change in FT8 is now complete and tested. Effective
at 0000 UTC on July 8, 2017, you should stop using FT8 with any WSJT-X
code revision earlier than r7805.

If you are building WSJT-X for yourself from source code, on July 8 or
later you may upgrade to the latest code revision and recompile. You
will then have access to the latest version of FT8.

If you are waiting for pre-built installation packages: We plan to post
a release candidate for WSJT-X v1.8.0-rc1 configured for Windows, Linux,
and OS X very soon -- probably early next week. Thanks for your patience.

I think you're right Art. FT8 matches the modulation I was seeing/hearing. I'll have to get up to speed with it.

It definitely wasn't Contestia or Feld Hell. The minimum b/w of Contestia is 125Hz and Feld Hell I think is around 340Hz and sounds quite different from mfsk.
