Andy,
Yes it is RTTY, in fact 100 WPM RTTY, but the reason you can't
copy it is that it is encrypted. The signal originates with the US Military
or one of its allies. It is fixed, point-to-point communications
electronically
scrambled in such a manner as to be virtually unbreakable.

Jim,
Interesting, without breaking any secrets, can you tell us what a signal
analyst does ? Is it like being an SWL but getting paid for it????

Wierd QRM nr PSK subband last night!

Larry Van Horn (Monitoring Times) <larry@...>

Last night while I scanned around 14.070 doing my PSK31 think, I noticed one
of the most bizarre bits of interference I have ever heard on HF (36 years
experience). It sounds like a mix between a voice signal and an ARQ type
signal. There had elements of voice intel and digital. Now I know I haven't
gone totally nuts, but this appeared to be down freq from 14.070 and it was
playing heck with the folks also trying to work the PSK31 mode. In addition,
our nightly visitor on ARQ showed up to give us several segments of idling
around 14.071 kHz. If I had ARQ capability I would surely go up and let this
LID know he isn't suppose to be there. Anyway did anyone elese notice the
unusual signals at the edge of the PSK subband last night?

73 all and look forward to working you on the air soon,

Larry Van Horn

ATTENTION...... G3PPT....... THROB COMMENTS

David Michael Gaytko // WD4KPD <cn2859@...>

HAD FAIR QSO WITH PJ2MI ON 10M THIS AFTERNOON, SIGS WERE STRONG AND NO
QRN/QRM.

AFTER MUCH MESSING AROUND, I FOUND THAT THE AFC DOES NOT TRACK THE INCOMMING
SIGNAL VERY WELL, I HAD BETTER LUCK TURNING OF THE AFC AND RELYING ON THE
RIGS STABILITY, BUT OF COURSE IT TOO FINIALLY WOULD DRIFT OUT.

MOVING THE PHASE LINE IN THE SECOND DISPLAY WINDOW DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE MUCH
AFFECT IF ANY, AND COULD NOT SEEM TO FIND THE RIGHT PLACE TO PUT IT. (IN THE
FIRST VALLEY OR AT THE TOP OF THE UP GOING SLOPE)

I KNOW THE PROGRAM IS BETA, JUST SUBMITTING MY USAGE COMMENTS.

THROB QUESTIONS

David Michael Gaytko // WD4KPD <cn2859@...>

WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE INCOMMING SIGNAL AND CHANGE THE AUDIO FREQ U ARE
HEARING, DOES THE OUTGOING AUDIO FREQ CHANGE IN A SIMILAR MANNER AS PSK WITH
THE NET OPTION CHECKED?

DAVID

Hi Dale:
Am often on 10M PSK31, hate the mess on 20M, hope we can make it some day,
am also playing with Fhell etc etc

THROB windows

Andrew J. O'Brien <obrienaj@...>

Someone just asked me what is the correct window we should be receiving
THROB in. I took that to mean which of the three receiving boxes is the
correct one. Seems like a good question, I had just assumed that it was ANY
window. In my few THROB QSO's the receive text varied from window to window
.

Anyone know more about this ?

Re: THROB windows

David Michael Gaytko // WD4KPD <cn2859@...>

HAVE SEEN THE TEXT DECODED IN ANY OF THE THREE ALSO, BUT AM GUESSING THAT
THE CENTER WINDOW (2) IS THE ONE THAT WILL SHOW WHEN THE SIG IS PROPERLY
TUNED.

DAVID

Hi
I to have problems reading Throb, someone was on 14062 (on my dial). Realy
strong signal, Tried LSB and USB but no luck on either. Time 16.40utc
onward.
AFC does not seem to hold on signal either. Another annoying thing is, when
listening there is no way of stopping the copy when there is no signal. Does
anyone apart from DL2RR and myself have these problems?.

A question Andrew. I have RITTY ver 1 or 2, but it only works

Tnx 73, Chas

I would arguer with Mike that this is VERY GOOD RTTY software,
perhaps the
best copying performance of them all. I used a version that came
out a year
or so ago, and had a bit of a dispute with the author (he was kind
enough to
send me a copy prior to payment but it did not work fully, probably
my
system not his software , we fell out over whether payment was still
due).
Despite this I would certainly say that old version was great and
the new
version sounds even greater. $100 seems steep in the days of free
soundcard
RTTY software, but the version of RITTY that I tried last year was
leaps and
bounds ahead of them all in the copy department.

If you are serious about RTTY DXING/Contesting this might be for
you.

Two digital lists ?

Andrew J. O'Brien <obrienaj@...>

I noticed that since Andrew Nicholson and I set up two different digital
related "reflectors" around the same time, that several of us are posting
jointly to digitalradio@egroups.com and RadioDataRecording@egroups.com .
The former was mainly ham related and the latter SWL.

Since we do frequently cross-post I wonder if we should consider a merger of
the two groups? Any comments
