new SW Radiogram program

Hello to all the digital folks out there.

A new program for the Shortwave Radiogram broadcasts has now been posted on the SW Radiogram website.

If you're new to decoding digital, this is a pretty nice way to get your feet wet. You can use your desktop or laptop, or you can use an Android device such as a smartphone or tablet. You can find links to the SW Radiogram website, software for decoding, and wiki articles with extensive details and help at: http://www.udxf.nl/events.html.

If you'd like to see a list of web receivers (which are often reported as being used), receiver, transceiver and SDR applications and more, take a look at the SW Radiogram gateway at https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Shortwave_Radiogram_Gateway

Help is also available on Facebook and Twitter. The SW Radiogram website has the links.

Radio Northern Europe International has announced its new schedule for program 16.
See https://rnei.org/2021/04/02/radio-northern-europe-international-show-16-announcement-post/.

Here's hoping for good propagation

Hello All,

HFpager for Android V3.31 is released.

HFpager for Android Versions History

V3.31
The program works even if the standard "Documents" folder has been moved
to the external SD-card.
V3.30
The weather forecasts received from the HFPgate (V1.60 NG and newer)
by the "=x..." command are converted to the human-readable form and saved into
the special folder. A separate folder is created for all messages received on
the same day (local time). Therefore, when the weather request is making around
midnight the sequence of received forecasts can be splitted into two folders.
V3.27
The click on "=xGPS" or "#(GPS)" button inserts the current
GPS-coordinates into the beginning of the message (in one of the two formats).
A point with the received coordinates can be displayed on the
selected map or transferred to another application as geo-intent by the popup menu.

During creating a new message by the "Resend message" menu item the
recipient ID of the original message is placed into the "To:" field.

During creating a new message by the "Reply" menu item the
sender ID of the original message is placed into the "To:" field.
The text of the new message remains blank in this case.
V3.26
The explanatory message is shown before requesting access to device location.
V3.25
If the message forwarded from the air to SMS contains "= x"-coordinates,
a link to Google Maps is added to outgoing SMS (in the NG-version).
V3.24
Fixed a bug in the formation of a beacon signal that occurred
if the station is located in the western or southern hemisphere.

Long press Popup-menu was updated:
"Share text with ..." item was added.
Three "Show in ..." items for messages with "=x" coordinates
were added.
V3.23
The program does not ask for location permission unless the option
"Include GPS-position into message" is enabled.

At 23.44 and 46.88 baud rates ACK or NAK are repeated twice
(with single preamble).

Scrolling has been done in the settings windows to allow using
the program in the landscape orientation.

Actions were made to prevent accidental closing of the new message
window and to pevent a disappearance of a text in this window while
switching to another application.

The "Insert coordinates" button was added into the new message window.
If coordinates are valid (fixed not early of five minutes before),
the prefix "=x" is used otherwise "=X" prefix is used.
v3.22
The retransmission logic was changed:
If a NAK (error receipt) is received, then a message is retrassmitted
even if "Resent if not CFM" checkbox is not set.

The two-way "Personal SMS-gateway" was made in the NG-flavor of the program.

Re: VARA HF , TRI MODE and the SDR #VARA #SDR

Graham

Edited

SDR latency is a little longer  than conventional ,  But , as is ,  its not possible  for , say,
a two  way connection , using , Flex SDR<> Flex SDR  and the  Chat module
probably a case of  unexpected consequence ..

Clarification   from  Jose ,

Jose EA5HVK

3 May 2021, 18:48:23 (yesterday)
to VARA HF Modem
Yes, with Dwell Trimode 4.5 seconds it would be possible to do a simple change to VARA HF to connect two SDRs: SDR<->SDR.   Although the latency in this case would be about 1 second due to both VAC.

But Winlink demanded 4 seconds maximum Dwell, so only is possible  SDR<->Conventional  or  Conventional <->SDR.

In VARA FM or VARA SAT is possible SDR<->SDR because there is no DWELL time requirements.

Re: VARA HF , TRI MODE and the SDR #VARA #SDR

Graham

Ok  James's

Good  question,

The Trimode  Dwell  time  of   4 seconds ,  is the  'only' limiting  factor , preventing the  deployment  of   SDR   in a   gateway
which is perhaps a legacy issue ..

Unlike 'fixed'/'static'  timed  systems / protocols , Processing  delays  and  switching times  are  not critical,  the  Vara  modem  deploys  'Dynamic' timing , additional delays [symmetrical & asymmetrical]
are automatically  compensated  for . eg  repeater  delays  for  VHF/FM and the  long  path delay  , for the AO-100   Sat link version  [ which also  can be used for  HF etc ]  , leaving the  HF version, while  compatible with the  4 second  dwell requirement ,unable to provided  otherwise,  sdr<>sdr connectivity

Established:

The  limiting  factor  is  solely the  4 seconds  delay , [as to  why  '4' seconds  is required
is not  clear ?] .

Increasing the  Dwell  time  by  500mS  , to  4.5  seconds , would  allow  deployment of the   Vara HF
modem , inside the  Trimode  system and  provide  both  SDR<>SDR and  Hybrid connectivity
both  inside and  out side the  winlink  system.

Re: VARA HF , TRI MODE and the SDR #VARA #SDR

James Clark

Are Winlink aware of this issue? And do they plan to address it?

VARA HF , TRI MODE and the SDR #VARA #SDR

Graham

VARA HF  , TRI MODE and the SDR

The   use of SDR and the  VARA HF modem is  limited to  , SDR  one side of the  connection  only
ie Conventional <> SDR  , or  SDR <> Conventional

Where as VARA FM and  VARA Sat , support SDR<>SDR

As V modem deploys dynamic timing , adjusting for symmetrical & asymmetrical
link  delays , this at  first sight, looked a little  'odd
considering, the  FM and Sat versions are 100% compatible

It transpires that  VARA HF latency cannot be  extended , due to the
requirement to  be compatible with  TRI Mode  band  scanning limitation  of 4 seconds
in which, the delay from only, one  SDR  may  be  accommodated ..this may not
be  fully recognised  and  could  present  un-expected  issues  ..

Implications :-

VHF 'FM'  1.2/9.6  Unaffected
V-SAT   unaffected

HF gateways  deploying  SDR may  fail to  connect  with  SDR  clients
conventional tx/rx may be  required  to  provided  conventional & sdr connections

VARA-HF-Chat  SDR<>SDR may not  function  *

*NB-  VARA -SAT  will  function with  Chat  SDR<>SDR
over HF link -

Unless the  SDR  processing times  are   reduced  and/or  the  4 second  Tri-mode scan
issue is addressed , the situation  remains precarious , with legacy issues influencing
HF gateway configuration .. extending the  V-HF latency [accommodation] is at odds  with
the  Tri-Mode  scan  cycle  ... catch 22

New release of MULTIPSK (4.45.2) #Multipsk

Patrick Lindecker

New release of MULTIPSK (4.45.2)

Pour les francophones: la version en français de ce message se trouve sur mon site (http://f6cte.free.fr). Il suffit de cliquer sur le lien "Principales modifications (courriel avertissant de la sortie de la nouvelle version)".

Hello to all Ham and SWL,

The new release of MultiPSK (4.45.2) is on my Web site (http://f6cte.free.fr/index_anglais.htm).
The mirror site is Earl's, W8BR: https://www.paazig.net/f6cte/MULTIPSK_setup.exe

The MD5 signature of the downloaded MULTIPSK_setup.exe file to, possibly, check (with WinMD5 for example), that the downloading works without error, is equal to:

e39e00b33097e5b45d60d13970b0bd97

Multipsk associated to Clock are freeware programs but with functions submitted to a licence (by user key).

The different improvements of MULTIPSK 4.45.2 are the following:

·                     Under the command "Tune+AF",  the Tune panel gives the possibility to make work an AF generator with an adjustable noise level. With the Multipsk tool "Spectrum analyser", this generator can be used to test an AF filter, for example:
AF generator ---> AF filter to test ---> Spectrum analyser.
This function is only available for licencied copies.

·                     Addition of the "No duplicate" option in POGSAG, so as not to display the successive repetitions of the same message.

·                     Update of the Shipdata.txt file (for the GMDSS and AIS modes). Thanks to Andy DL1DXX.

·                     Update of the VDL2_Ground_Stations.txt (for the VDL2 mode). Thanks to Sergio.

Note about translation of Multipsk.exe and Clock .exe:  the 4.45.1 version of Multipsk has been translated to Spanish by Joachin (EB4Z), from French.

See: http://f6cte.free.fr/Translation_files.htm.

to VARA HF Modem
good afternoon,

New VARA HF v4.4.3 released:

The previous release versions of VARA uses a 16-bit hash to resolve the callsign and this has a small but finite chance of getting the call wrong (One in 6553 error rate). John Wiseman detected and reported a case he observed this happening.
Now this is changed to a 32-bit representation which will essentially eliminate the chance of this happening.

VARA Compression added, which reduces  connect overhead's for weak signal conditions.  Averaged simulation runs showed improvements of a factor of 2 in the Speed Level 1. The improvement becomes more modest as the SNR is improved until Speed Level 6, where compression is not necessary. Messages which already have Winlink applied B2F compression are not compressed.

Compression also accelerates dramatically the BBS throughput (using VARA Terminal v1.1.5).
Thus, BBS Lists are accelerated by 3.0, Forecast messages by 2.6 and MARS Encrypted Data by 1.5. For more info about how use VARA Terminal for BBS MARS connections, contact with Dave AF2HV (Squadron Commander, 22nd AFMARS Trans-Global Communications Digital Operations Military Auxiliary Radio System, USAF)

This great feature is active only for the registered users and was added a few days ago to VARA SAT v4.1.0. and , will  be  embodied  in VARA FM soon.
