ARIM Messaging Program v0.30

Bob NW8L

Hello,

ARIM v0.30 is available for download:

https://www.whitemesa.net/arim/arim.html#inst

- Adopt GNU build system for easier package building and more
options for installation for those who build from source.

- Binary packages work as before, but the name of the directory
that is extracted is 'arim-0.30', not 'arim'. Directory names are
now versioned to prevent confusion and allow new versions to be
extracted into a folder side-by-side with older versions without
the risk of files being overwritten. Binary package file names
are now based on canonical names for OS and cpu, e.g.
  'arim-0.30-bin-linux-gnu-x86_64.tar.gz' for 64-bit Linux.

- Bug fixes and enhancements.

Details in change log excerpt below.

Files are also available at the ardop applications Files area at

sometimes 10.131 for a while in-between, for testing.

---------------
1. Move to GNU build system for ease of building binary
distributions and offer those who build from source more
   installation options:
   a. To make and install a "portable" version suitable for running
locally or from a flash drive:
        ./configure --enable-portable-bin
        make
        make install
This will install all files to a directory named 'arim-0.30'
in your home directory. Then, to run arim:
        cd ~/arim-0.30
        ./arim
The 'arim-0.30' directory is self-contained and can be copied
to another location and used there.
   b. To perform a conventional system installation and make arim
available to all users, do this:
        ./configure
        make
        sudo make install  (Linux)
      or
        make install       (Cygwin)
      Then, to run arim:
        arim
The first time arim runs a directory named 'arim' is created
in your home directory which contains the data files for your
user account. You should then edit the arim.ini file to set
your call sign and other configuration parameters. See the
INSTALL file in the source code distribution for more info.
2. 'flist' command now returns error message if shared files
access is disabled in the arim.ini file (max-file-size = 0).
3. "Dynamic File" execution error log now rotated daily, and a
timestamped trace written to mark program start.
4. Various changes and cleanups to improve portability of the
   source code.
5. Update Help file.
